Moab, Utah, is located in western central Utah. It is well known as an outdoor lovers paradise with lots of things to do. The area is in a southwestern setting surrounded by two national parks: Arches and Canyonlands National Park. Just to the north of the town is the mighty Colorado River that provides more recreation activities. This article will scratch the surface of things to do in this town.
1. Arches National Park
Arches National Park’s main attraction is the over 2,000 natural red rock sandstone arches. The entrance to the park is located just north of the Colorado River. Arches is the most popular outdoor spot in Moab. There are still places where you can get away from the crowds to see just as spectacular places as the popular locations. The park is a spectacular way to get used to elevation as well as stretch your legs. Do not miss Delicate Arch, the most famous natural arch in the world. 2. Canyonlands National Park
Canyonlands National Park is much more remote compared to Arches. It is the least visited park of the Mighty 5 of Utah. It is divided into several districts, two of which are accessible by car. In the Needles District visit the tall needles of colourful red rock layers. Thousands of feet up is the Island in the Sky District with the most famous screensaver in the national parks system, Mesa Arch. A canyon framing the Colorado Plateau and the distant La Sal mountains. For more information about Canyonlands visit the Canyonlands tab on our website. Link at the bottom of the article.
3. River Rafting Colorado River
For a special kind of experience hire one of the many businesses in Moab for river rafting on the Colorado River. They have trips for all skill levels with different classes of rapids. This can be a more expensive experience but you will save money by visiting the much cheaper national parks. River Rafting was one my favorite experiences of I have had and would do it again in a heartbeat.
4. Dead Horse Point State Park
This park with a strange name provides another excellente view of the Canyonlands area. The main feature of the park is the canyon view of the winding Colorado River and the high plateau above it. It is one of the most spectacular views in all of the southwest and the country.
