This is the final blog from our December 2020 Black Hills Adventure! Be sure to read all the previous blocks of our trip to the Black Hills before reading this one. The last morning of our trip we quickly packed up our things and headed to the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. This is where we had our college tour for me that lasted the whole morning.
After our tour, it was lunchtime so we finally got to eat at the McKenzie River restaurant. We had been to that particular location once before, on our way to Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks. The food was very good, as it always is. We got the Good Ol’ Boy, our favorite every time we eat at one of these. Just a classic deep pepperoni pizza. It was super filling so we were good for the rest of our long ten-hour drive home to Kansas City.
There was nothing left for us, except to get on I-90 and head east. We passed back through the town of Wall and all the Wall Drug Signs. I listened to the Dear Bob and Sue Podcast to keep me entertained. Looking to the right I could see the towers of the Badlands in the distance. Sometime later, we arrived at Chamberlain. We stopped at the visitor center, I was hoping to get another stamp but the facility was closed for the winter. I ran around looking at the beautiful wide Missouri River hundreds of feet below.

It was dark shortly after that, we passed by Sioux City, Sioux Falls, and Omaha inching closer to home. For what felt like an eternity later we arrived home. I got the Jewel Cave and Wind Cave map cut out from the brochure to put on my wall. I love to collect all the park maps. I also added the Wind Cave sticker to my national parks cup. That was the end of our 2020 Black Hills Adventure. I would highly recommend this area as a good starting place for road tripping. These are pretty close together and there are things that the whole family will enjoy.
