Oh how I love a small park!! In thinking back on all the national parks I’ve visited, I do think that Bryce Canyon is the most easily accessible park as far as getting out of the car and BOOM! There’s all the good stuff! This is not to say I don’t love an adventure or a challenge to get to some beautiful scenery. All of that can be extremely rewarding. But some days, you just love to get out of the car, walk to the lookout point and see it all right in front of you.
We visited Bryce Canyon last summer on a day that was already filled with driving and other sights to see. We left Grand Junction, Colorado, in the morning. Drove into Utah and had lunch and a hike at Capitol Reef. We were due in Springdale, UT that evening for our stay, and we had plans to hit Bryce Canyon. Oh, and we were also driving the Devil’s Backbone that’s part of the Grand Staircase. There was a lot going on, and I was starting to get nervous.
It’s a good thing there are long summer days because we needed daylight. We drove into Bryce City in the late afternoon, and I was just sure there was no way we could see the famous hoodoos of Bryce Canyon in the time we had left. There’s always a catch! There’s always a 5-mile hike up a mountain! There’s always some sort of obstacle that never makes it easy. WRONG! Bryce Canyon is super simple. You drive up, you look out, you see this!
